Current Article Summary

Your science project will be to read and report on several current articles that are related to science. The article that you choose will come from a magazine currently held in our library or an article otherwise approved by your teacher. Your teacher must approve the article that you choose before you proceed on your report. The library holds the following magazines that contain articles relevant to science:
  • Discovery
  • National Geographic
  • National Wildlife
  • Natural History
  • Popular Science
  • Popular Mechanics
  • Science News
  • Scientific American
  • Tennessee Conservation
  • Newsweek
  • Time

The requirements for your reports are as follows:

  1. Your report must be at least five paragraphs long with five sentences in each paragraph and must be no shorter than one page.
  2. Your report should tell what interested you in reading this article, then you will summarize the article, and explain how the article relates to science. Your report will be graded based on whether it contains these elements.
  3. You need to make sure that the report includes capitalized sentences and end punctuation.
  4. YOU MAY NOT COPY! Plagiarism will result in a grade of zero for the report. If you plagiarize you will have one additional opportunity to rewrite for a ten-point deduction.
  5. You may write up to four additional paragraphs in your report for bonus points. Each additional paragraph will be worth 5 bonus points if it has at least five sentences.
  6. You must include bibliographic information for your magazine article which will be written in the following format.

Author's last name, Author's first name. (date) "Title of Article." Name of Magazine, Volume number, Page numbers.

Example:
Bennett, R.P (1995, July/August). "Wheelchair Programs Pick Up Speed." Virtual Reality Special Report, 2(3), pp 9-14.
